The Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) controls, manages, and operates a total of 44 minor ports in Gujarat, including some operated in partnership with private companies. From handling just 3% of the national port traffic in 1982–83, Gujarat's minor ports have grown to manage 31% of the national port traffic as of 2016–17. They also handle 71.3% of all minor port traffic in India.
Along Gujarat’s 1,600 km coastline, there are 41 ports. Kandla is the only major port, while the remaining 40 include 11 intermediate ports and 29 minor ports under the jurisdiction of the Gujarat Maritime Board.
The Board is responsible for the administration of ports and harbours, conservancy, licensing of crafts, levying of fees, and regulation and control of traffic.
